The orkut journey - Part I

It was after board exams and entrance exams had started, I received about 4-5 invitations to orkut. Its fate- deleted at sight just like I did to other invitations. Those invitations were from my friends. While chatting with a net friend of mine, he asked me to join orkut, I asked Why? What's in there? He said we can create communities and also add friends and can keep in contact with them. I said, what the hell? I already use Y! and also use Y! groups then why join orkut? Anyway, I joined just to try and the journey began.

The very first minitue I found out that orkut is a privacy killer. I could go to anyone's profile and read any scrap from anyone. That was when I decided I am going to delete scraps from my sCRAPbook and never exchange any information of orkut that people can misuse. Next thing I did was joined a few communities...... school community, Man Utd, Pizza, India and some communities dedicated to pretty ladies across the world.

First few days was boring, rarely scrapped and just went on searching and adding friends. India community became a fun place, in no time people got to know me, maybe for the stupidity and insanity I possess! I became a thread buster, a certified troll, a thread hijacker, soon got into a group of friends. Flirting was something I didn't enjoy, after all its virtual!

In a month, I am addicted, but its fine, going into college and not much stress to study the addiction was fine! Managed 99% attendance in 1st semester, don't ask about marks he he. It was in Aug/Sept that India community became a battlefield, the good days are now lost, no more having fun, it was full of abusers. India moderated was born. We had problems with Gagan deleting chat threads on regular interval but when abusers dropped in, few of my friends thought its better to move. Now, I was seen more in I(M) than in I370.

Meanwhile, I came to know about FnG, it was a bad start for me, people there used to rag the newcomers and I went with an attitude of no one can rag me especially after I wasn't ragged in college. Things were really screwed up but after some time, it went well for me, met some crazy people and did crazy things whole night! Sadly, it became highly inactive after some of the members became terribly busy and some members had to leave for certain reasons. Those were some days!

2-3 months passed and orkut introduced moderator privileges, something that orkut seriously lacked. I expected I370 to get better and the good old days to be back. On the other hand, I was enjoying at I(M). The situation at I370 continued to be same for 2-3 weeks and that was when I got in touch with Amarnath in a thread. I suspected it to be fake of Gagan and questioned him a lot. He called me to Y! and rest is history. Me and Gaurav became moderators. 1st week, more than a 100 of fakes were banned, most of them being banned by Gaurav. The place became peaceful(except few hiccups) after Arun and Ajay became mods.

I was moderator for about 3-4 months and then I quit, joined back again after 1 month to only quit the following month. My performance was good in 1st term but in the 2nd term I admit I took few harsh decisions. Coming back to atmosphere in I370, it was good for some time the start of 2007 but nothing like the time when I joined in mid of May. Those days are hard to return and those people are hard to come by.

Around mid of March I came to know about GR, pretty late coz I used to be highly inactive on orkut, kinda de-addcited. GR came as a good package, full of fun and nautanki, no serious talks, only fun and flirting! Last few months of orkut has been mainly on GR, in fact it is the only community I didn't unjoin before deleting my profile! GR has the potential to be a super hit soap. The saas bahu suspense seen in close friends with a series of unexpected events! I better start producing one before EKKts KKapoor gets to know about it!

I think this is all for the part I, dedicated to the communities I liked on orkut. I was starting to have fun in my school community and became a good controversial figure but I had to leave, maybe sometime later when I join back, I will have fun!!!
